Your business needs a skilled Bubble developer on staff

Introduction
We’ve built over 30 apps on Bubble and we have recently been reflecting on which projects have been successful, and which ones haven’t.
The main thing we have observed is that the successful projects have been for clients who understand the process of software development and are realistic about what app ownership will be like moving forward.
Those who think its “build and do nothing” often have a project that does not succeed, as they are unable to keep making the frequent small changes that Bubble allows implementing the learnings of launching your app within your business.
Solopreneur
If you run a business with yourself, plus engage a contactor here or there, Bubble is an excellent choice, providing you can support your app, or you have someone on hand who can do this for you.
Bubble gives you full flexibility to build whatever you want, but the catch is you either need to learn how to use it to a basic level to do system administration of your app, e.g. updating rows of data, making copy changes, pushing changes to the live version of your app, or applying updates to the Bubble app version.
It is also important to have a basic understanding of security to make sure you don’t expose your user’s sensitive data. Having a grounding in concepts like SEO, testing, and migrating or rolling back database content is important.
Bubble is many times easier than learning to code, and if you are a person managing your own Bubble app-based business, either yourself as the developer or managing a developer, then our Momentum Academy bootcamp program is a great course to make sure you understand everything that you will need to know for this role.
SMB/SME’s
Bubble is also a good fit for small to medium enterprise / small medium businesses (SME/SMB) maintaining a customised website, web application, or portal for various use cases. In this situation, having a skilled Bubble developer or Bubble agency on hand to provide the support mentioned above is important to ensure security and to keep your app running when things change or go wrong.
If you do choose an agency to manage your initial build, they will be well-placed to continue to support the app and provide ongoing feature iterations. They should also be able to document the project and hand it over in a clean way to an in-house developer, should your budget allow this.
Enterprise
Although Bubble has mainly targeted startups and small medium enterprise, Bubble as a platform is quickly adding enterprise-level features like SOC-2, version control, and multi-collaborator development environments.
It is fit for purpose in use cases including customized web development, internal intranet sites, and customer-facing portals. It is ideal for testing out new ideas quickly to show proof of concepts and get formal approval to launch larger projects.
In these cases, the services of an agency are helpful in setting development standards and configuring the initial environment. Moving forward from here, having a dedicated team of Bubble developers or an agency that can provide support is essential.
Conclusion
Bubble is a great tool for the use cases discussed here. Having a dedicated Bubble developer on team, or an agency that can provide support, is an essential part of maintaining your Bubble app and providing ongoing feature iterations. Momentum Academy provides a professional level training program that can help you train existing team members and enable them to work towards certification, to help your business leverage the value that Bubble will bring.
Where this story went
We spent five years mastering Bubble. Now we build with AI.
Momentum was one of the world's leading Bubble.io agencies — that's why we wrote this article. These days we build and migrate the same kinds of products with Claude Code: real, portable code your own team can amend with AI. If you're weighing up a move off Bubble (or any platform), we've made the journey ourselves.
