Why blog
I’m a huge fan of blogging.
I know a lot about a handful of niche topics, and blogging gives me a way to connect directly with like-minded people who are looking for my expertise and perspective.
Most of my clients are businesses in my position. This article is a quick how-to guide for my clients and anyone else who cares to read it!
Where to host
There are lots of great choices.
I host my company’s blog on Medium.
I sometimes also build a blog feature from scratch on certain customers’ websites when something really custom is needed (after all, I’m a Bubble developer). E.g. for really dynamic blogs, or if my customer needed me to build something a bit like Medium.

But for most blogs, I prefer Medium for a mix of reasons: the very-low cost, the great SEO, and the opportunity to build a following.
How to
Step 1: Get a Medium account. You will need a paid account to do some of these steps ($5/month).
Step 2: Create a Medium Publication. Call it something original like “Your Business’s Blog”.
Step 3: Connect a custom domain to the publication. In your Publication settings, there is an option for connecting your own subdomain.
Step 4: Set up all of the colors, fields, layouts, logos, etc to your preference. See here for some examples.
Step 5: [Optional] Create a CTA “footer” section for each blog article, which should have an email collection form (using Embedly) so that interested people can stay in touch with you.
Step 6: Write some great content! Surely if you’ve come this far, you’ve got something to say. Write about the questions your clients, customers, or readers ask you all the time.
Step 7: [Optional] Get nerdy and use some data. Read up on UTM codes, Google Analytics, and Google Search Console. Medium also has a Stats page. I won’t say much more. But it will help you see what is connecting numerically and what is leading to conversion.
Conclusion
It’s the era of content, and great content can do a lot to move the needle for your business. Happy blogging!
