WordPress runs a huge share of the web, and for good reason — but the bill comes later: plugins that break, security patches you can't skip, PHP that slows the site down, and a maintenance retainer that never ends. We rebuild WordPress sites with Claude Code on Astro — plain, fast code with no plugins to patch and no monthly platform tax — and we treat your search rankings as the most valuable thing being moved.

Why Momentum

The real cost of staying on WordPress

A WordPress site is rarely "free" — between hosting, premium plugins, a security service and someone to keep it all patched, most business sites quietly cost $100–300 a month to run, and grind to a halt the moment a plugin update goes wrong. We moved a 14-year-old WordPress charity site to Astro with its full search history mapped from Search Console: organic clicks went from 9 to 149 a month straight after cutover, because every legacy URL — even from retired sub-domains — was 301-mapped to its new home. That care is the whole job.

Why teams leave WordPress

  • No plugins, patches or security scares
  • Running cost drops to ~$20/yr (domain)
  • Pages load in a fraction of the time
  • 9 → 149 organic clicks/mo on a recent rebuild

FAQ

Common questions

Will I lose my Google rankings moving off WordPress?

Not if it's engineered properly. We inventory every existing URL (from Search Console, not just the sitemap), map and test 301 redirects before launch, and stage the cutover so nothing ever goes dark. Then we monitor rankings after launch to prove they held.

What happens to all my WordPress plugins?

Their function gets rebuilt natively — forms, SEO, galleries, caching and the rest become part of the code or a lightweight service, so you stop renting a stack of plugins and stop patching them. You end up with the same features and none of the maintenance.

Can my team still edit the site without wp-admin?

Yes. We set up a simple CMS for everyday content — copy, posts, hours — and for bigger changes your team can ask an AI against the repository, which we can teach them to do. No wp-admin, no plugin dashboards.

How long does a WordPress migration take?

Two to six weeks for a typical marketing site, depending on page count and integrations. The rebuild is fast because we build with Claude Code; the care goes into the content audit and redirect engineering.

What will the site cost to run afterwards?

Usually just your domain name (around $20 a year). Hosting on Netlify's free tier serves most business sites comfortably — no hosting bill, no plugin licences, no maintenance retainer.

On a different platform?

Start from where you are now — each guide covers that platform's specific quirks, redirects and running-cost.
